The ring is on your finger, and the wedding planning is ramping up! You’ve selected your bridal party, and now it’s time to delegate. But what are the duties of your bridesmaids and maid/matron of honor?
To help remove the stress off of you as the bride, here is a breakdown of some tasks and roles your bridesmaids and maid/matron of honor should fill during the wedding planning process and on your wedding day to create an enjoyable day.
Maid/ Matron of Honor:
As the maid/matron of honor, they will be your second in command. They will be in charge of organizing and being the leader of the bridesmaids. Along with this, they are there to keep the stress off of you as the bride. Here are vital tasks they are in charge of:
- Dress Shopping: For both your wedding dress shopping and shopping for the bridesmaid’s attire, the maid/matron of honor should be there for you to bounce ideas off of and help choose accessories.
- Plan and Host the Bridal Shower: Your maid/matron of honor will also be in charge of planning and hosting the bridal shower. The bridesmaids should also be there for her to assist in the planning process.
- Bachelorette Party: First, the maid/matron of honor will need to ask you as the bride what you are looking for in a bachelorette party. Do you want a weekend destination or something closer to home? Then she will be in charge of organizing the other bridesmaids and plan and book the bachelorette party.
- Wedding Day Tasks: As the second in command, your maid/matron of honor’s role is to keep you stress-free. Here are tasks she is responsible for on your wedding day:

Bridesmaids
Your bridesmaids’ responsibilities will be to help take the stress off of you as the bride by helping with tasks and being an emotional support. Ultimately, they will need to take leadership from the maid/matron of honor. Here are tasks they are responsible for:
- Dress Shopping: Whether you are shopping as a group or individually, your bridesmaids will be responsible for shopping, paying, and, if necessary, getting their dress altered.
- Bridal Shower: They will need to help the maid/matron of honor plan and pay for the bridal shower.
- Bachelorette Party: They will need to help the maid/matron of honor plan and pay for the bachelorette party.
- Pre-Wedding Events: To the best of their abilities, they will be responsible for attending any pre-wedding event, from DIY nights, invitation labeling nights, or couples’ showers.
- Wedding Day Tasks: Getting to the getting-ready location on time with their attire will be your bridesmaids’ first responsibility. Here are additional responsibilities:
